Momentum Builds for Armada Varsity Teams in Fall 2024

Armada secured impressive rankings, top-three finishes, and an undefeated regular season in 2024 collegiate play.

Dozens of Armada players sit in gaming chairs at desktop computers. They are wearing headphones and playing video games.

In the Fall 2024 competitive season, Armada varsity teams performed well across popular esports titles, securing impressive rankings, top-three finishes, and an undefeated regular season. 52 Armada athletes made up this season’s varsity rosters, competing in Apex Legends, Call of Duty, Halo, iRacing, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., and Valorant.

“All of our teams have been in a healthy place this season,” shared Team Manager Hoyt Dingus. “They have all done their best and represented Full Sail with professionalism and sportsmanship.”

Full Sail’s Super Smash Bros. team continued to cement its legacy as a force in collegiate Smash, finishing their NACE Varisty Premier season undefeated at 7-0. Unfortunately, they went on to be eliminated in the playoffs.

Armada teams also performed strongly at this year’s Battle for Florida LAN event, finishing in fourth place out of 16 teams in both League of Legends and Valorant. Armada’s League of Legends varsity team didn’t stop there, finishing third at the Playfly Open Premier and tying for fifth place at the CLoL Fall Warmup Playoffs.

Standout players like “Hybrid” and “Cyyke” earned praise from team management for their commitment to competition and team dynamics. “[Hybird] is one of the best team captains the Rocket League team has had. His play is amazing, but what he does in the soft skill department for the team is unparalleled,” says Hoyt. “And Cyyke is always about what is best for the Apex team. This season he has taken a bit of a back seat to allow others on the team to shine in the gameplay department.”

As Armada looks to the 2025 competitive seasons, leadership is gearing up for some exciting new changes on the horizon.

“Armada’s momentum is stronger than ever, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead in 2025,” says Director of Esports, Sari Kitelyn. “This spring, we’re focusing on building even stronger team dynamics and welcoming some incredible new team members. As for Fall 2025, we’re gearing up for the next big evolution of Armada. While I can’t share details just yet, I can promise it’s going to be game-changing.”

“There is some big stuff happening in the year to come, and I can't wait to see it all come together,” adds Hoyt. “As we continue to work hard day in and day out, I want players to remember that win or lose, we are all in this together as one. Don't forget to have fun, after all, that is the point of playing games.”
