Armada Community Recap: Fall 2024

Beyond competitions, the Armada community spent their fall season enjoying casual gaming, volunteering with Extra Life, and more.

This fall, Full Sail Armada continued to build its community presence both on campus and online. Volunteer opportunities, campus events, community game nights, and club gatherings have opened doors for new members, invited back old friends, and allowed Armada to connect with Orlando esports advocates and organizations.

Club Gatherings & Community Nights

Monthly club gatherings at the Full Sail University Orlando Health Fortress have given students the chance to connect with their peers, share their love of gaming, and make the most of the technology available on Full Sail’s campus.

“We're able to provide a nice, big space that's customizable for our students with the bleachers and the big screen, so we can show off matches or if there's a big event going on,” shares Armada Community Manager Anissa Peoples.

The BYOC (bring your own console) model of club gatherings allows students to have more input into the event’s shape while sharing their favorite games with their peers through competitive or casual play.

Online students also enjoy regular community game nights, grouping up for pick-up games in titles like Overwatch, Rocket League, and Valorant.

Volunteer Opportunities

Armada community members volunteer throughout the year to support initiatives for Extra Life and this fall was no exception. Armada athletes and officers joined Full Sail staff at the Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to bring the trick-or-treating fun that many patients may miss out on directly to the Orlando hospital. Students manned a booth where they were able to greet trick-or-treating patients with smiles, share their love of gaming, and provide much-needed Halloween treats.

Student Officers

This fall, the Armada community also installed new club officers, continuing the tradition of passing on the leadership torch as current officers prepare to graduate and enter the industry. Dragon Gorland was installed as the club’s newest president, while student Marshall Moore was installed as the club’s first Extra Life officer.

According to Anissa, the path to joining Armada and becoming an officer isn’t dependent on being a competitive player.

“If there's an officer position open, [students should] apply. I know even from the outside in, it may look like we're just a competitive organization. But there's also a really strong casual game community. We have a huge Splatoon community. We've got people who bring Just Dance to our club gatherings. There's something for everybody. If you're interested in gaming, it never hurts to ask.”
